S&T Communications Recipient Among Winners of 2024 Weary Scholarship

Press release, October 9th, 2024.

The Mid-America Cable Telecommunications Association (MACTA) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Weary Scholarship. Among the winners is Tadan Fikan of S&T Communications in Kansas. S&T is particularly excited about Tadan’s success; he is the son of one of our long-time employees, Brad Fikan. We couldn’t be more proud. Joining Tadan is Olivia Holz (Three River Digital, Nebraska) and Kai King (Cimtel Telephone, Illinois), all three are being awarded a $3,000 scholarship.

The Weary Scholarship is granted annually to meritorious, academically focused college students to support their further education. The scholarship also extends its benefits to telecommunications industry employees, their spouses, and children in the MACTA region.

The scholarship was instituted in 1989 to commemorate the remarkable contributions of Robert K. Weary, a leader and entrepreneur within the cable industry. Weary, who passed away in 2001, held various prestigious positions during his career. He was a National Cable Television Association director, president of both the Mid-America Cable Television Association and the Kansas Cable Television Association, and a National Cable Television Cooperative board member. His visionary leadership left a significant imprint on the industry.

Founded in 1958, the Mid-America Cable Telecommunications Association is an industry association that fosters technical excellence, superior customer service, innovative marketing, and student scholarship among telecommunication providers. MACTA’s members include cable telecommunications system operators in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Iowa, Arkansas, and Texas.
