The Nightmare Before Christmas (Disney+) – Tim Burton’s stop-motion animated classic about Jack Skellington’s efforts to bring Christmas to Halloween Town. Available on Disney+.
Halloweentown (Disney+) – everything changes for 13-year-old Marnie when she learns that she comes from a family of witches. Available on Disney+.
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit – this charming British film won the Academy Award for best animated feature in 2005. Available to Rent on Prime Video.
The Witches (Netflix) – young Luke and his grandmother have their seaside vacation turned upside down when it turns out their hotel is also hosting a convention of witches who are planning to turn all of the world’s children into mice. Available on Netflix.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad – a classic retelling of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” in Disney’s unmistakable style, this classic from 1949 is still worth a watch. Available on Disney+.

Friday the 13th – Summer camp never seemed the same after we were introduced to Jason Voorhees and his mother at Camp Crystal Lake. Available on Fubo and SlingTV.
Nightmare on Elm Street – this 1984 film is the stuff nightmares are made of, literally, thanks to the revenge-seeking Freddy Krueger. Available for rent on AppleTV and Prime Video.
Halloween (2018) – it’s been 40 years since Michael Myers first made his appearance on Halloween night, but after escaping from a mental institution, he’s back for one final showdown with Laurie Strode. Available for Rent on Prime Video and Vudu.
Sleepy Hollow – Another take on Washington Irving’s classic tale, this Tim Burton directed film is a far cry from the Disney version, thanks to his trademark mix of horror and fantasy. Available on Netflix.
The Ring – a videotape featuring images so disturbing and scary that anyone who watches it dies seven days later…and that’s not even the scariest part. Available on Fubo and Showtime Streaming.
Hereditary – this movie has everything you want in a horror movie – terror, frights, and a creepy feeling that stays with you long after you see it. Available on Prime Video.
Scary Classics
The Shining – watching Jack Nicholson’s descent into madness is in the isolated Overlook Hotel just gets better (and scarier) with each viewing. Available for rent on Prime Video.
Rosemary’s Baby – a psychological horror film that’s filled with unsettling suspense, creepy characters, and an ending that makes you want to watch it again. Available on Showtime Streaming.
The Exorcist – near the top of nearly every “scariest movie” list, the story centers around two priests trying to save a 12-year old girl from demonic possession as her mother watches helplessly. Available on HBO Max.
Rocky Horror Picture Show – At the top of the rare genre of “musical comedy horror,” this fan favorite is the very definition of a cult classic. Available for Rent on AppleTV and Vudu.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari – believed by many to be the first true horror movie, this German silent film from 1920 is perfect for the horror film buff in your family. Available on Prime Video.
Psycho – Hitchcock’s iconic film is ranked among the greatest films of all time, and is considered the first true “slasher film.” Available on Prime Video and Peacock.
Night of the Living Dead – no Halloween season is complete without at least one viewing of a movie filled with undead corpses, and this George Romero classic is one of the best. Available on Prime Video and HBO Max.
